Ruth Dsilva plans to take UPSC Civil Service Exam after CA final.

For students who are taking the CA exam, Ruth suggests maintaining the regularity of their training and not abandoning the course. For those who are taking the exam using the previous method, she suggests analyzing their performance and deciding whether to change or go on with their first attempt.

ICAI has released the result of its CA final exam which was held in July 2021. This year’s merit lists are led by female candidates. The old course results in Mangaluru’s Ruth Clare Dsilva has secured the all India ranking (AIR) 1 with a score of 59 percent. 

Excited by her achievement the top performer said, she was confident that she could pass the test but was unsure whether she would be able to get the rank.

Ruth graduated from school in her hometown and went on to pursue a BCom (Hons) via distance learning. “Since school days, my favorite subject was accountancy and therefore, I pursued graduation through distance mode and began my preparation for the CA exam,” the top student stated.

Ruth was able to begin her CA career in 2014. She was always prepared for the test. She spent between 8 and 9 hours per day.

“I learned the theoretical subjects through self-study. I also enrolled myself in online courses for my fellow students. One of the primary sources for my study was the YouTube channel from AIR 1 brothers Ajay and Atul Aggarwal. In the remaining topics, I strictly followed the notes from the institute.” Ruth shared.

She made reference to CA Vikas Oswal’s book on Audit, CA Bhawar Borana’s book for direct tax well as Yogender Bangar’s book on indirect tax. Other than these, the majority of the documents were sourced from internet-based sources.

When asked about the impact of the covid-19 pandemic in the course of examinations, Ruth said that she did not take part in the tests in the first round, but the second one was difficult for her since the dates of the exam were not known.

“It was a pain trying to track announcements about whether the exam was going to be held or not. Since I was not a candidate at the time of the previous attempt it added stress.

The risk of being unsafe was another reason since the number of cases was increasing and. But I did my best to make sure that the exam was not delayed as I believed the exam would be conducted,” the topper said.

Ruth is delighted about her accomplishment, but she is keen on her next challenge. Ruth had made the decision to sit to take a UPSC Civil Service exam. “Now that I ticked off one goal from the list, I will consult with the relevant stakeholders on the UPSC exam preparation to go ahead in that direction,”

Although in the past years, it was observed that boys tend to appear as CA top performers, However, this year was distinct. According to Ruth, “Times are changing. Parents are more accommodating and encouraging children to choose the careers they would like to pursue. I would like to see this trend continue in the future”.
